Residue that is still there at planting is not organic matter yet. It is a problem.

NGest Dry accelerates the breakdown of crop residue by pairing a six-species microbial package with ammonium sulfate. The microbes do the digesting. The AMS supplies the readily available nitrogen that gets the carbon-to-nitrogen ratio where those microbes can actually work.

That combination is the whole idea. Corn residue runs a wide C:N ratio — there is plenty of carbon and not nearly enough nitrogen for decomposition to move at any speed. Adding microbes without addressing the ratio asks them to work in conditions that will not support them.

What’s working for you

Four Bacillus species — licheniformis, pumilus, amyloliquefaciens and megaterium — do the bacterial share of the work, cycling nutrients out of residue and back into a form the next crop can take up.

Two fungi — Phanerochaete chrysosporium and Trichoderma harzianum — are the difference-maker. Fungi break down lignin and the tougher structural material that bacteria alone struggle with. Most residue products are bacteria only.

Ammonium sulfate delivers 13% water soluble nitrogen and 15% water soluble sulfur, creating the favorable C:N ratio the microbes need to break residue down and mineralize nutrients.

Novel germination technology speeds germination of the Bacillus spores, so residue breakdown and nutrient release accelerate faster — including under stress.

Why growers choose it

  • Bacteria and fungi together — an industry-leading microbial package that includes fungi, not just Bacillus
  • Nitrogen and sulfur built in — 13% N and 15% S from AMS create the C:N ratio decomposition needs
  • Faster spore germination — novel technology gets the microbes working sooner, even under stress
  • Better plantability — less residue at planting means better seed-to-soil contact
  • More uniform emergence — cleaner seedbed, more even stands
  • Nutrients cycled back — mineralizes what is locked up in last year’s crop
  • Dry formulation — 20 lb bag treats 40 acres — easy to handle and store
  • Three application windows — fall after harvest, spring with early herbicide or cover crop termination, or summer on wheat stubble

Coverage

Sold in 20 lb bags, 100 bags per pallet. At 8.0 oz per acre, one bag covers 40 acres at about $14.35 per acre. A full pallet covers roughly 4,000 acres.

How to apply

Apply 8.0 oz per acre in a minimum of 10 gallons of water per acre. Apply to any crop residue.

Timing:

Fall Apply immediately after harvest for best performance
Spring Apply with an early herbicide application or at cover crop termination
Summer Ideal for breaking down wheat stubble

Mixing: Tank mix with at least 10 gallons of water per acre. Add products in this order, mixing thoroughly after each addition: NGest Dry, adjuvants, pesticides, then fertilizers. Mix only enough for the immediate application, and do not exceed the maximum amount of product per acre for any tank mix partner.

Conduct a jar test before application when using high phosphate or alkaline solutions (pH above 7).

Do not mix with bactericides or copper compounds.

Storage: store in the original container away from heat and direct sunlight in a cool area. Sweep up spills — do not attempt to clean up with water.
